Koa Makes its Entrance into the 500 Series
Do you dream about a guitar with more warmth than any of its kind? Then you’re in luck. The limited-edition Taylor 514ce is the guitar you’re looking for. Made with a red cedar top and showstopping koa back and sides, you and your audience will be treated to rich, sustaining tones. When you’re recording, its clarity and top-end shimmer easily cut through the mix to take center stage. Complete with V-Class bracing and ES-2 electronics, this limited edition Taylor 514ce will find its way into your hands whether you’re practicing, gigging, or recording. For fans of koa, it really doesn’t get better than the volume, sustain, and tone of the 514ce.
Unique tonewood pairing creates sweet, open tone
Are shimmer and sweetness your weakness? Then you’ll absolutely love the 514ce! The team of designers at Taylor combined two tonewoods known for their warm and sweet tonal properties. First, they chose a western red cedar top for its mellow attack and rich, open character. Then, they paired the top with Hawaiian koa back and sides. A favorite around Sweetwater, koa creates notes in a league of its own. Playing a koa guitar is like taking the snappy attack of mahogany and throwing it in a blender with maple’s brightness, and rosewood’s sweetness. As you continue to play the guitar, the initial brightness will fade away and be replaced with a pleasant, open tone.
V-Class: Taylor’s sonic innovation
Few acoustic guitar makers can claim to have created something completely new. That’s not the case with Taylor. Designed by master guitar builder Andy Powers, Taylor introduced a completely new bracing pattern that has wowed the acoustic world. As the name suggests, this bracing pattern takes the shape of a V instead of traditional X-shaped designs. This promotes better top flexibility and creates an optimal balance between volume and sustain. When you’re playing, you’ll notice that your 514ce will have better intonation while playing chords. You can easily play triads up the neck without having to worry about jarring overtones.
Relocated pickup delivers superior plugged-in tone
Players who play plugged-in should rejoice! This guitar is equipped with Taylor’s Expression System 2 electronics. Another revolutionary Taylor design, the ES-2 design relocates the pickup from under the saddle to behind the saddle. The updated placement better captures the horizontal vibrations of the saddle. This gives the sound reproduction a far more transparent feel than the thin sound of under-saddle pickups. Once you plug-in, you can easily dial in your sound with the master volume and 2-band bass and treble EQ located on the upper horn.
